Rehome a Chihuahua in South Africa
If your circumstances have changed and you need help finding a new home for your Chihuahua, Little Doggy Rescue offers a home-to-home rehoming route for small dogs. Start by telling us about your dog and your situation. An enquiry does not guarantee acceptance, a placement or a particular timeframe.
Ask about rehoming your Chihuahua on WhatsApp or read our rehoming process and owner enquiry form.

Help a new family understand your Chihuahua
Children, attachment to one person, dental care and keeping two Chihuahuas together can all matter when considering a new home. Explain your own dog’s needs rather than relying on assumptions about the breed.
- Handling and children: Describe what happens when your dog is picked up, approached while resting, or around children of different ages. Include any snapping or biting incidents and their circumstances.
- Companionship: Explain who your Chihuahua is comfortable with and what you have observed when they are left alone. Describe behaviour rather than assigning a diagnosis.
- Care records: Include known dental concerns, previous treatment, medication and the care instructions you have been given.
- A pair of dogs: Tell us whether your Chihuahuas live together and how they react to being apart. Include both dogs in the initial enquiry.
How home-to-home rehoming works
Your dog normally stays with you while applicants are reviewed. Little Doggy Rescue does not provide kennel or foster intake as part of the standard process. Please explain any deadline or difficulty keeping your dog at home when you first contact us.
- Share your town and province, contact details, your dog’s age and weight, and why you are considering rehoming.
- Prepare an honest account of health, behaviour, daily routine and compatibility, together with clear current photographs.
- Discuss the current process and requirements with the rescue. Tell us about any urgent constraints; do not assume an immediate handover is possible.
- Follow the agreed matching and introduction steps. A potential home needs to suit the individual dog, not only a preferred breed.
See our owner’s rehoming guide and dog photograph guide for preparation. If relocation is the reason, our emigration guide explains the importance of planning ahead.
Questions about rehoming a Chihuahua
My Chihuahua is anxious. What should I include?
Describe the situations that worry them, their reactions, what helps, and any professional assessment or support already in place. A quieter home may be worth discussing, but the appropriate next step depends on your individual dog.
What if my Chihuahua has dental problems?
Share available veterinary records and known ongoing care needs. Do not hide a problem to make the profile more appealing. Acceptance and matching are considered individually.
Can two Chihuahuas stay together?
Raise this at the start and explain their relationship. Read our bonded-pair rehoming guide. An enquiry cannot guarantee that a suitable home for both will be available.
Start with your location and your dog’s story
We work with enquiries across South Africa, with options depending on the dog’s needs, location and suitable homes. You can also read our regional guidance for Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
WhatsApp 061 443 2497 or call us to discuss the next step.
