Adopt a Medium or Large Dog – Big Hearts Come in All Sizes
Why Adopt a Medium or Large Dog?
Big Hearts Come in All Sizes
While our mission at Little Doggy Rescue is rooted in helping smaller breeds, we know that rescue doesn’t always come in a small package. That’s why we occasionally offer the opportunity to adopt a medium or large dog through our trusted, no-shelter, home-to-home adoption process.
These gentle giants bring a unique kind of companionship and often thrive in active households with more space to roam. Whether it’s a loyal Africanis, a spirited Husky, or a special mixed-breed soul, every dog listed here receives the same high-level screening, compassionate care, and careful matching that our little rescues are known for — because big hearts deserve the same chance at a forever home.

Is a Larger Dog the Right Fit for You?
Adopting a medium or large dog is a rewarding experience, but they often have different needs than our smaller residents. These dogs typically flourish in environments that provide:
- Big-Sized Loyalty: Larger breeds are known for their protective nature and deep devotion to their families.
- Space to Stretch: Ideal for homes with larger gardens or proximity to parks.
- Active Lifestyles: Many larger breeds make excellent hiking or running partners.
- A Solid Foundation: While often calmer indoors, larger dogs benefit from consistent lead training and social engagement.
Frequently Asked Questions About Adopting a Medium or Large Dog
How does the Little Doggy Rescue adoption process work?
Our process is designed to be “home-to-home,” meaning we eliminate the entire kennel/cage environment. Once you find a medium or large dog you connect with, you’ll submit an application, followed by a telephonic interview and a home check. This ensures a perfect match for both the family and the dog.
What are the benefits to adopt a medium or large dog?
Larger dogs often bring a balanced energy to a home. Many are surprisingly “low energy” indoors once they’ve had their daily walk, making them excellent companions for families who want a dog that is sturdy enough for outdoor adventures but calm during movie nights. Additionally, they often transition very well into homes with existing pets after proper introductions.
Do I need a large garden to adopt a bigger dog?
While more space is generally better for medium or large dog breeds, the activity level of the owner is often more important than the size of the garden. A large dog in a small yard with two long walks a day is often happier than a dog in a massive yard who never leaves the property. We evaluate each dog’s specific energy needs against your lifestyle during the screening process.

If you’re ready to adopt a medium or large dog, our team is here to guide you every step of the way toward a safe, loving forever home.
