❤️ A LITTLE MORE ABOUT JOCK

Jock is a loving little dog with plenty of personality packed into his Dachshund body.

His owner describes him as sweet, social and lovable. He enjoys affection, although he prefers gentle attention rather than being overwhelmed with hugs or fuss.

Jock is also naturally observant and very aware of his surroundings. His sensitive hearing means he quickly notices unfamiliar sounds, and he may respond by barking or growling.

This alertness is something many Dachshund owners will recognise. Understanding his breed’s instincts, along with patient guidance and a reassuring home environment, will help Jock settle into his new life.

When it comes to other dogs, Jock has a special canine friend at his current home whom he gets along with well. However, he is not comfortable around unfamiliar dogs, and this is an important consideration when choosing his new family.

Jock would also benefit from having someone nearby during the day. A home where he can enjoy regular human companionship, rather than spending long periods on his own, would be a lovely match for him.

JOCK’S IDEAL HOME

Jock needs a loving family who will appreciate him for the wonderful little character he is.

An experienced Dachshund home would be particularly lovely for Jock, especially one where his new family understands the breed’s alert nature and vocal tendencies.

His ideal home would offer:

  • Someone who works from home or a household where someone is at home for most of the day. Jock needs regular human companionship and should not routinely be left alone for long periods.
  • Jock’s ideal home: Jock could thrive as an only dog, where he can enjoy plenty of human companionship. However, a home with another calm, friendly dog may also be considered, provided introductions are gradual, carefully supervised and Jock shows that he is comfortable.
  • A calm, loving environment where he feels secure and comfortable.
  • Gentle affection and companionship, without overwhelming him.
  • Children who understand how to handle dogs kindly and respect their personal space.
  • A secure property where he can safely explore and enjoy his surroundings.
  • Patient, consistent guidance to help him respond more calmly to everyday sounds.

Jock is still a young dog with many happy years ahead of him. With understanding, kindness and the right environment, he has so much companionship to offer.

WHY DOES JOCK NEED A NEW HOME?

Jock’s owner has made the difficult decision to find him a new home because his frequent barking and sensitivity to surrounding noises have become challenging in his current living situation.

This does not take away from his affectionate and gentle nature. It simply means that Jock would benefit from a home better suited to his particular personality and breed characteristics.

His owner would love to see him settled with a family who understands Dachshunds and can offer him a happy, secure future.

Jock remains with his current owner while Little Doggy Rescue helps find the right home for him.

🐾 A LITTLE ABOUT THE DACHSHUND BREED

Did you know that Dachshunds were originally bred in Germany to hunt badgers?

Their name comes from the German words Dachs (badger) and Hund (dog).

Their distinctive long bodies, short legs and determined personalities were developed for a very specific purpose: following scent trails and working underground in animal burrows.

Although most Dachshunds today enjoy life as beloved family companions, many still retain characteristics linked to their working ancestry.

A few interesting Dachshund traits:

  • Excellent hearing: Dachshunds are often quick to notice sounds that people may barely hear.
  • Natural watchdogs: Their instinct to alert their family to unfamiliar activity can make them quite vocal.
  • Independent thinkers: Their hunting background helped develop confident, determined little personalities.
  • Affectionate companions: Many form strong bonds with their families and enjoy being close to their favourite people.
  • Big personalities: Despite their small stature, Dachshunds are often bold, curious and full of character.

Of course, every Dachshund is an individual, and understanding each dog’s particular personality is just as important as understanding the breed.

For someone who already knows and loves Dachshunds, Jock’s alertness and expressive personality may be very familiar!
