Rehome a Pug in South Africa
If your circumstances have changed and you need help finding a new home for your Pug, Little Doggy Rescue offers a home-to-home rehoming route for small dogs. Start by telling us about your dog and your situation. An enquiry does not guarantee acceptance, a placement or a particular timeframe.
Ask about rehoming your Pug on WhatsApp or read our rehoming process and owner enquiry form.

Make your Pug’s care needs clear from the start
When discussing a new home for your Pug, include any concerns about breathing, eye care, weight, children or relocation. Rather than promise that a particular home will solve these concerns, a rehoming profile should set out your Pug’s actual needs and the care already recommended for them.
- Health history: Include known breathing, eye or skin concerns, diagnoses, previous procedures, medications and available veterinary records.
- Daily care: Describe the exercise, feeding and warm-weather routine you currently follow, including any restrictions you have been given.
- Handling: Explain how your Pug responds to children, grooming, being picked up and other animals. Describe observed behaviour, not a general breed reputation.
- Practical support: Explain any ongoing appointments, expenses or supervision a future owner would need to understand. Do not promise that care needs will disappear in a new home.
How home-to-home rehoming works
Your dog normally stays with you while applicants are reviewed. Little Doggy Rescue does not provide kennel or foster intake as part of the standard process. Please explain any deadline or difficulty keeping your dog at home when you first contact us.
- Share your town and province, contact details, your dog’s age and weight, and why you are considering rehoming.
- Prepare an honest account of health, behaviour, daily routine and compatibility, together with clear current photographs.
- Discuss the current process and requirements with the rescue. Tell us about any urgent constraints; do not assume an immediate handover is possible.
- Follow the agreed matching and introduction steps. A potential home needs to suit the individual dog, not only a preferred breed.
See our owner’s rehoming guide and dog photograph guide for preparation. If relocation is the reason, our emigration guide explains the importance of planning ahead.
Questions about rehoming a Pug
My Pug has noisy breathing or an existing eye condition. What should I disclose?
Include the symptoms you have noticed and any veterinary assessment, treatment and ongoing care instructions. A rehoming enquiry is not a medical assessment and cannot establish whether a symptom is harmless.
What if my Pug has a weight-management plan?
Share their current weight, feeding routine and any existing veterinary plan. Describe the support they need without concealing concerns or making promises about future progress.
We are emigrating. Can you guarantee a home before we leave?
No fixed placement date can be promised. Give your departure date at the start and read our emigration rehoming guide. Travel suitability is a separate question from rehoming and should not be decided from a breed page.
Start with your location and your dog’s story
We work with enquiries across South Africa, with options depending on the dog’s needs, location and suitable homes. You can also read our regional guidance for Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
