Trust and Transparency at Little Doggy Rescue

Little Doggy Rescue trust and transparency for small dog adoption and rehoming in South Africa

Rehoming or adopting a dog is an important decision. Families deserve clear information about who they are dealing with, what the process involves and what Little Doggy Rescue can and cannot promise.

Who We Are

Little Doggy Rescue is a South African small-dog adoption and rehoming organisation operating as part of the SA Yorkie Rescue network. Since 2023, we have helped owners and adopters find suitable homes for small dogs through a cage-free, home-to-home process.

We do not operate a public shelter. Where appropriate, a dog remains with the current owner while a profile is prepared, potential adopters are reviewed and a suitable introduction is arranged.

How Our Rehoming Process Works

  1. Private discussion and dog profile: We learn about the dog’s personality, routine, health, history and home requirements.
  2. Applicant review: Interested families complete an application and may be contacted for a conversation, references or a home check where appropriate.
  3. Owner involvement: The current owner remains part of the process and is consulted about the proposed family.
  4. Safe introduction and transition: When everyone is comfortable, an introduction and direct home-to-home handover can be arranged.

How Adoption Applications Are Considered

An application is not approved simply because it was submitted first. The needs of the individual dog guide the decision. We consider factors such as secure fencing, existing animals, children, working hours, exercise needs, grooming, veterinary care and the temperament of the dog.

Applicants should read the full dog profile before applying. Some dogs need a quiet home, an experienced adopter, another companion animal or a home without young children. Some may only be suitable for a local placement.

See our adoption process and online application.

Privacy and Respect

Owners often contact us during stressful personal circumstances. We provide private, judgement-free guidance and do not publish unnecessary personal information. Public profiles focus on the dog, the general location and the information a suitable adopter needs to make a responsible decision.

Owners should disclose medical, behavioural and compatibility information honestly. Accurate information protects the dog and helps prevent an unsuitable placement.

Dogs We Can Help

Little Doggy Rescue specialises in small breeds and small mixed-breed dogs, generally under approximately 15 kg. Because we are a home-to-home service, the dog normally needs to remain safely with the current owner while the process is underway.

We cannot guarantee that every dog can be accepted or placed within a particular period. Timing depends on the dog’s needs, location and the availability of a suitable family. Where we cannot assist directly, we may suggest another appropriate rescue through the wider South African rescue community.

Where We Work

We support adoption and home-to-home rehoming across South Africa. Availability varies by province and by the requirements of each dog. Browse current dogs available for adoption and read the location information in every profile.

Evidence of Our Work

Our published dog profiles and adoption success stories document real examples of dogs who have moved into suitable homes. We aim to keep available, pending and adopted statuses current so families can make informed enquiries.

Our Rescue Network

Little Doggy Rescue is part of a broader rescue network that includes SA Yorkie Rescue, Yorkie Rescue Gauteng, French Bulldog Rescue South Africa and Lost Dogs South Africa.

I came across a Little Doggy Rescue post on Facebook. From the moment I responded to the post, the team were great, responded to messages quickly asked and answered all questions thoroughly. With in day everything was organised, home check, interview and the very next day we could go collect our new child. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with them.

In May 2026, I saw the face of a sweet Chihuahua on Facebook, and thought I will reply and see what happens. That was a Friday evening, by Sunday afternoon, LouwQI ( now Loki) was in my house. The process was painless, smooth and the only important issue was Loki's happiness and safety. We are like glue. Thank you for making this happen!

Dear Little Doggy Rescue,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the incredible work you do.

Throughout the entire rehoming process, your team was supportive, compassionate, caring and professional every step of the way. It was clear that your priority was finding the right home while also making the experience as smooth and reassuring as possible for everyone involved.

Thank you for your kindness, dedication and the genuine care you show to both the animals and the families who welcome them into their homes. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Little Doggy Rescue to anyone looking to adopt.

Keep up the amazing work.

Kind regards,

Herc Hlengwa
