A small boy with a massive heart
If you are looking for a loyal, lap-loving companion and are home most of the day, Frankie might be your perfect match! This incredibly cute Dachshund cross Jack Russell for adoption in the Western Cape is searching for a very specific, loving forever home where he can truly thrive.
At just 1 year and 9 months old, Frankie is a sweet, small boy (weighing 6.8 kgs) with a massive heart, a lively spirit, and a few special needs that require an understanding owner.
Get to Know Frankie
- Breed: Dachshund Cross (we think with Jack Russell Terrier)
- Age: 1 year 9 months
- Gender: Male (Neutered)
- Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
- Size: Small (6.8 kgs)
- Health: Excellent physical health, fully vaccinated. He is currently on managed anti-anxiety medication.
- Compatibility:
- Dogs: Best with a patient, compatible dog rather than as an only pet. While selective with strange dogs, he thrives with a canine friend once he has had time to bond. Initial introductions should be slow and managed off-lead with safe dogs.
- Cats: Strictly NO cats.
- Children: Older or adult-only home preferred due to a lack of exposure to young children.

Frankie’s Personality: A Total Sweetheart & Lapdog
Frankie is the epitome of a loyal companion. He is affectionate, inquisitive, playful, and his absolute favorite place in the world is snuggled up on your lap.
He is an incredibly smart boy who did very well at training school! He travels beautifully in the car and is a dream sleeper—once he is tucked under his blanket at night, he is fast asleep until morning (though he certainly wouldn’t object to sharing your bed if allowed!).
Frankie will move to his new home with his favorite things, including his bed, jacket, harness, lead, and toys to help him settle in.

Understanding Frankie’s Needs: The Perfect Fit
Frankie’s current owners love him dearly but have made the brave, heartbreaking decision to rehome him because their home environment is not the right fit for his specific challenges. We want to ensure his next home is his forever home, so his new family must fully understand his needs:
- A Cat-Free Home is a Must: After 7 months of intensive habituation training, Frankie cannot live with cats. He will chase them, which causes immense stress for everyone involved.
- Severe Separation Anxiety: Frankie is highly human-dependent and experiences severe distress when left alone. His family has tried behaviorists, specialized veterinary behaviorists, and various medications, but he cannot cope in a home where the owners are out all day.
- The Ideal Owner: Frankie needs a home in Cape Town where someone is around most of the time—perhaps someone who works from home, is retired, or can take him along with them.
- Thunderstorms: He is afraid of thunder and will need a reassuring human to comfort him during Cape Town’s stormy days.
On lead, Frankie can be reactive or scared of other dogs, but when he is off-lead and feels safe, he is sociable and happy to mingle.
